Some of my paintings

I am really enjoying painting since I retired.  I have taken classes through the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, where my teacher Carol Boyajian in the Art Studio Class that meets on Thursdays has encouraged me to branch out from watercolors to pastels and oils.  Below are a few of the oils I have painted since I began last December.  I'm not great, but I'm having a lot of fun.

Picture
This was one of my first oils, a picture of my son Derek and his daughter Ella.  I love the way he looks so filled with admiration at her. This picture is 11 x 14 inches.
In a private collection.

Picture
One of my bigger efforts, this oil painting is 24 x 30 inches.  My good friend Jim, a terrific writer from Oregon, is checking out his truck, obviously.  He writes a great blog.  He also edits a terrific on-line journal of student work.
In a private collection.

Picture
When we were in Constanta, Romania, on the Black Sea, we were surprised to see this woman across from the casino (designed by the same architect who designed the one at Monte Carlo) sweeping with a homemade broom made of twigs.  This picture is 11 x 14 inches.

Picture
Oil, 24 x 30. A gift to our friend Dee who named it Rasputin Takes Five. It's hanging in her dining room.
Picture
Oil, 11 x 14. Souvenir vendors hissed at this Gypsy woman in Romania when we were there a couple years ago.

Picture
I found a tiny black and white photo of a beautiful woman in a National Geographic.  It was first published in the Twenties, and this is my interpretation of it.  This is 24 x 30.
It is now in a private collection.

Picture
This is a pastel drawing of an ocelot.
Picture
My self portrait.  It surprises me how much I look like my dad.  And I loved painting myself thinner.
